How much omega 3 can I take?

Our Vegan Omega 3 is made up of 1000mg algae oil which provides 550mg of Omega 3, 300mg EPA and 150mg DHA per serving. The official recommendation for Omega 3 daily consumption is 250mg per day of combined EPA and DHA.  However, algae oil has a higher DHA content which is why our supplement has 300mg DHA and 150mg EPA. 

A registered nutritional therapist may prescribe a higher dose of Omega 3 as a therapeutic dose short term but it is never wise to increase the dosage of any supplements without consulting a doctor.

Do vegans need Vitamin B12, and if so, how much do they need?

The recommended daily requirement of Vitamin B12 for adults is approximately 1.5 micrograms. 

Vitamin B12 deficiency due to inadequate dietary intake is much more common among plant-based and vegan diets because B12 primarily comes from animal foods. If your diet is vegan or plant-based and you’re not eating animal foods or foods fortified with Vitamin B12, it is likely you won’t be getting enough Vitamin B12.  

Opt for foods fortified with Vitamin B12 including yeast extract, such as Marmite or yeast flakes, some plant milk alternatives, soya yoghurts and breakfast cereals. alongside our Vitamin B12 supplement.

Can I take B12 with my B12 injections

Yes, this should be safe to do and many customers do take our Vitamin B12 alongside their B12 injections when they feel they need the additional support. However, we would advise you to consult your GP if you find that you need our supplement regularly alongside your B12 injections, as this may mean that you need to increase your dosage via injections.

How long does B12 take to work?

It can very much depend on a number of factors including your diet, lifestyle, age, weight, exercise levels, any existing health conditions and the current levels of your B12 and B Vitamins. Our Vitamin B12, for example, is very popular among those who have a deficiency due to their diet or other factors, and who do a lot of exercise and expend a lot of energy for which they need additional support.  

Some people notice the benefits within hours or a day or two of taking Vitamin B12, for others however they notice the difference over a period of a few weeks, or when they stop taking them for a few days. As such, it really does depend on each individual. However, we’d hope that you would begin to start feeling the benefits within 2-4 weeks once your body has adapted.

What is the best time to take Vitamin B12

B vitamins are best taken in the morning after waking up. This is because of their energy-increasing abilities. It is due to this reason we would advise against taking your B vitamins in the evening to prevent disruption to your sleep.

Can you take omega 3 while pregnant?

Yes! Omega 3 fatty acids play a big role in a baby’s brain development, which is made up of nearly 60% fat, specifically DHA. When to take omega 3 supplements: morning or night?

Omega 3 can be taken anytime of day, with or without food.

How long does it take for omega 3 to work?

Results will vary from person to person. Most people will notice a difference after a week; however, the full benefits can take up to 3 months.

Can I take omega 3 with vitamin d?

Yes. Both of these are needed by most people.

How much Vitamin B12 should I take per day?

The amount of Vitamin B12 you may need will depend on your diet, exercise, your body's absorption efficiency, the form of B12 you take, and your current levels of B12. Many people have low absorption efficiency due to gut health issues such as IBS and Chron's, and medication. People following a plant-based diet will also have lower levels of B12.

The NRV for Vitamin B12 is only 2.5mcg per day, which is considered far too low for many people. B12 is a water-soluble vitamin, so any excess you take will be excreted by your body through urine.

The most important factor is to choose a methylated form of B12 called methylcobalamin, which is the most absorbable for your body. If you're correcting a deficiency, look for a dose of 2,000ug per day, or 2-3 times a week. Is Folic Acid the same as Vitamin B12?

No, folic acid (folate) is a vitamin in the B-vitamin family known as 'Vitamin B9'. Folate works alongside and in balance with other B vitamins and is vital for the synthesis of DNA and the replication of new cells. It's important to take a daily dose of 400ug of folate during pregnancy to support the fetus's brain development, as found in our Pregnancy Multinutrient.

Are Folate and Folic Acid the same thing?

No, folic acid is the synthetic, poorly absorbed form of Vitamin B9. Folate is the natural form, which is a much better absorbed form, and is found in high-quality supplements such as DR.VEGAN's Pregnancy Multinutrient, Women's ProMulti, Daily Multivitamin, and others.

Are B12 supplements vegan?

Not all Vitamin B12 supplements are vegan. Methylcobalamin is a vegan, the most absorbable, and the most body-friendly form of B12.
