What is Alfalfa?

Alfalfa (or lucerne) is a legume that has been cultivated for centuries and is a staple component of Ayurvedic medicines. However Alfalfa has become popular in western cultures due to the presence of important vitamins and nutrients, and its strong antioxidative effect, giving it various health benefits, especially for maintaining a healthy head of hair. 

As an antioxidant, Alfalfa helps to fix and neutralise ‘free radicals’ in the body. Free radicals are unstable molecules that occur naturally but also can be generated by environmental conditions such as sunlight, pollution and microbes which can damage hair follicles. Through its antioxidative properties, Alfalfa may prevent stress and damage to cells. Alfalfa also has an effect on fibroblasts and keratinocytes, which may support the hair’s vitality, the structure and appearance of our hair and nails, as well as glossy and lustrous hair.
