Improved immunity and resilience to bugs and viruses

A robust immune system is fundamental to good health. A strong immune system is needed to help build resilience to any opportunistic bacteria, viruses or illness we may face all year round. Discover 'Signs your body is fighting an infection'.

Vitamin D3

Vitamin D3 in its biologically active form, will help support your body’s immune defences. Vitamin D3 is recommended by Public Health England during the Autumn (ideally from October) through to Spring (April), while an intake of Vitamin D3 is also recommended, depending on your individual needs throughout the year.(4-5) If you wondering if you're deficient in Vitamin D, learn more about the signs of Vitamin D deficiency.

How Zinc supports the immune system

Zinc is an essential mineral that must be obtained through the diet. The body has no particular mechanism for storing Zinc and therefore a regular intake of small amounts of Zinc through diet or supplements is required to meet the body’s needs so it can function optimally and remain healthy. Learn more on why Zinc is so important for your immune system.

Zinc deficiency is more likely among:

  • Vegetarians and vegans
  • Those who are pregnant or breastfeeding women
  • Those with an alcohol use disorder
  • Those who suffer from gastrointestinal disorders such as IBD (Inflammatory Bowel Disease). Learn more in ‘What is IBD’.

In vegetarian diets, the bioavailability of Zinc is often lower, because large amounts of legumes and wholegrains are often consumed. These foods contain compounds called ‘phytates’ which can bind to Zinc and prevent its absorption.

Meat contains high amounts of bioavailable Zinc, but as we are slowly trying to reduce our consumption of animal produce, be it for health or sustainability reasons, we may as a result be lacking Zinc. If you are a vegetarian or vegan, there is a higher risk you will have lower dietary intakes of Zinc.

  • Vitamin E is an antioxidant that works synergistically with Vitamin C for optimal benefits, while Copper and Zinc also work synergistically in the formula.

How Zinc supports the skin

Zinc is found in many plant-based foods as well as animal-based products, however plant-based sources may be lower in minerals, including Zinc, than they used to be due to modern farming practices and the use of pesticides, among other factors. In fact research shows that crops grown in soils around the world contain up to 40% less nutrients than even 20 years ago due to over farming

Zinc is required for the replication of DNA and for every new cell in our body. When wounds are healing, they go through a rapid pace of cell regeneration, all of which requires Zinc. Learn more about how Zinc supports your skin.

For targeted support for your skin and hair, we recommend our Beauty Bundle, including Skin Saviour® and Hair Saviour®. Suitable for men and women, our Beauty Bundle combines 11 clinically studied ingredients from Skin Saviour® with 14 essential healthy hair nutrients from Hair Saviour® to help support strong, healthy hair growth and a clearer, glowing skin complexion.

Improved mental performance and psychological wellbeing

Our Daily Multi-Vitamin contains the essential nutrients for maintaining a healthy cognitive function and a happy, healthy mind which are vital for our overall wellbeing and longevity.

  • Vitamins B1, B3, B12, C and Magnesium support normal psychological function.
  • Vitamins B1, B2, B3, B6, B12, C and minerals like Magnesium, Copper and Iodine contribute to the function of the nervous system.
  • Nutrients like Vitamin B5 support mental performance.
  • Several nutrients included in the Daily Multi-Vitamin also contribute to the protection of our cells against oxidative stress. These include Manganese, Copper, Selenium, Zinc, Vitamins B2, C and E.

Oxidative stress

Oxidative stress can arise due to environmental stressors like pollution or heavy metals; dietary stressors like processed foods or sugars; physical stressors like surgery or daily stress; and lifestyle factors like smoking, alcohol and medication.

In simple terms, oxidative stress is an imbalance that can occur between free radicals (unstable molecules) and antioxidants in the body. When the body goes through a challenging time, oxidative stress can occur and may put individuals at higher risk of illness. By supporting the body with nutrients and plants with antioxidants, as well as reducing factors such as stress in our lives, oxidative stress can be lowered.

Cognitive function, mental health and wellbeing

According to large randomised controlled trials, a multivitamin supplement can help improve cognitive function and memory in some people, while cognitive decline in the elderly may be reduced. (9-10) The COSMOS-mind study is the largest simple pragmatic randomised clinical trial performed over 3 years with a total of 2262 participants.

Supports overall health and daily wellbeing

The Daily Multi-Vitamin also contains Choline, Calcium and botanicals like Turmeric and Spirulina.

Choline

Choline plays an essential role in the health of your liver and normal cholesterol levels. Standard multi-vitamins don’t contain Choline, and with the inclusion of Choline in a highly absorbable form, this is another reason why our Daily Multi-Vitamin is so acclaimed. Discover 'The benefits of Choline and where to find it'.

Calcium

Calcium is an essential mineral that isn’t produced by the body and therefore must be consumed in our diet or through supplements. Calcium is involved in many bodily processes and helps support digestive function. The amount in the Daily Multi-Vitamin can help supplement your dietary intake of Calcium to meet your daily recommended amount of 800 mg.

Many types of Calcium can be found in supplements, some of which are far better absorbed than others. Our Daily Multi-Vitamin provides a bisglycinate form of Calcium that is kind to digestion and much better absorbed than other inorganic forms of Calcium.

Turmeric

Turmeric is an Ayurvedic spice widely used and acclaimed for its nutritional profile and benefits. Learn more in the '5 benefits of Turmeric'.

Spirulina

Spirulina is a source of antioxidants, which can help protect the body against the consequences of oxidative stress.

Spirulina naturally contains the compounds ‘phycocyanin polysaccharides’ and ‘sulfophilids’ - both of which have been studied for their immune supporting properties. You may also be interested to hear that Spirulina contains more Iron per serving, than spinach.

Supports a healthy metabolism

Biotin and Zinc act as co-factors for enzymes, supporting the body’s normal metabolism of macronutrients. By doing so, key nutrients help convert the food we eat into a form of energy that the body can use for daily functions. Macronutrients essentially consist of proteins, carbohydrates and fats. Although having both an active lifestyle and eating a well-balanced diet play a vital role in overall health, maintaining a healthy metabolism also plays an important role at any stage of life.

Chromium helps to contribute to balanced blood glucose levels. You may be interested in our GlucoBalance® formula, an advanced formula for managing blood sugar and a healthy metabolism, regulating insulin function and supporting daily energy.

Daily Multi-Vitamins: Do they work?

“Do I need to take a daily multi-vitamin?” and “Do daily multi-vitamins make any difference?” are two of the most common questions our nutritionists are asked. We discuss the benefits of daily multi-vitamins and how to know if your daily multi-vitamin is any good.

Should I be taking a Multi-Vitamin?

The question isn't 'Do I need vitamins and minerals every day?' (you absolutely do!), but 'How will I get them into my body every day?' Our bodies need at least 13 vitamins and 16 minerals which are essential to our health.
