  • 1 tbsp. vegan butter
  • 2 tbsp. plain flour
  • 500ml vegetable stock
  • 1 tbsp. marmite
  • Splash of red wine
  • Black pepper to taste


  1. Start by melting your butter in a saucepan over low heat. Once melted, add your flour slowly and mix to form a roux.
  2. Then slowly add your vegetable stock, whisking as you go.
  3. When you’ve added all your stock and your mixture has thickened, add in your marmite and red wine and stir.
  4. Bring to a simmer and add your black pepper to taste and that’s your gravy done and ready to pour over your festive feast!
