What is Cordyceps?

Cordyceps is the name for a group of fungi found throughout Asia. It might sound strange to consider fungi as a health supplement but it has been used in traditional Chinese medicine for centuries, and our bodies already contain various different types of fungi in our ‘gut microbiome’ (the ecosystem of microorganisms in our digestive system) that provide us with a range of health benefits.

Cordyceps is an adaptogen, the name given to plants, herbs and fungi that regulate pathways in the body and increase resistance to stress, and help to increase physical endurance and energy. They work on a molecular level by regulating the balance of the hypothalamus, pituitary and adrenal glands. Because of this, Cordyceps is acclaimed for increasing our body's adaptability and resistance to fatigue, stress and anxiety by stimulating the adrenal glands and modulating our nervous system. Studies also indicate that it may enhance endurance levels in combination with other adaptogens such as Rhodiola.
