What is Cordyceps?

Cordyceps is the name for a group of fungi found throughout Asia. It might sound strange to consider fungi as a health supplement but it has been used in traditional Chinese medicine for centuries, and our bodies already contain various different types of fungi in our ‘gut microbiome’ (the ecosystem of microorganisms in our digestive system) that provide us with a range of health benefits.

Cordyceps has been studied for its role in helping regulate pathways in the body that improve the body's resistance to stress, and increasing physical endurance and energy. These pathways can help regulate the balance of the hypothalamus, pituitary and adrenal glands. Because of this, Cordyceps is acclaimed for increasing our body's adaptability and resistance to fatigue by stimulating the adrenal glands and modulating our nervous system. Studies also indicate that it may enhance endurance levels in combination with other adaptogens such as Rhodiola.
