    What is Saw Palmetto Extract?

A small, rugged palm (plant), Saw Palmetto is endemic to the tropical regions of the Southeastern parts of the USA. In fact, this plant is so hardy that some are thought to be around 700 years old. So what is it about this Saw Palmetto that’s blessed with long life that makes it interesting to nutritionists?

Saw Palmetto is commonly taken for men's health, helping regulate hormones and for hair. Testosterone in both men and women can contribute towards hair thinning. There are a number of different forms of testosterone in the body and the form most likely to affect hair thinning is called 'Dihydrotestosterone', commonly referred to as 'DHT'.

Our hair follicles are sensitive to DHT, which can lead to shrinking or shortening of hair, making it more likely to fall out and more difficult to grow back. There are a number of studies into Saw Palmetto regarding reducing hair loss and supporting hair growth. There are also studies into Saw Palmetto and urine flow.
