How it works?

Our Comprehensive Digestive Health Bundle includes clinically studied ingredients to help provide extensive gut and digestive support.

Betaine hydrochloride

Betaine Hydrochloride (also known as trymethylglycine (TMG) is a naturally occurring compound derived from Choline combined with hydrochloric acid. Betaine HCl is used to address hypochlorhydria (low stomach acid levels), which may contribute to signs often associated with acid reflux.

Digestive enzymes

With digestive enzymes including amylase, lipase and protease aid with the breakdown of food and facilitate digestion. When foods are not broken down properly, they could trigger indigestion and acid reflux, also known as heartburn. The majority of individuals with indigestion and acid reflux do not produce enough stomach acid to break down foods and nutrients effectively. This partially digested food puts strain on the oesophagus (the ring of muscles at the top of the stomach), and as a result, acid seeps back up into the oesophagus causing a burning sensation. By correcting the acidity level, food is digested and broken down properly, taking the pressure of the oesophageal sphincter.

Research concludes that digestive enzyme combinations have been in use for a long time and have a modest response in ameliorating various symptoms of dyspepsia due to both functional and organic causes.1 Studies show the favourable role of oral digestive enzyme supplementation in patients with functional dyspepsia due to inadequate digestive enzymes and can reduce signs of functional dyspepsia.2 Enzymes may reduce the time food stays in the stomach, reducing pressure on the lower oesophageal sphincter and reducing reflux signs.

Artichoke

Artichoke helps with digestive discomfort (e.g. feeling of fullness, flatulence) and stimulates hapato-biliary effects.*** Artichoke extract may promote bile secretion and accelerate gastrointestinal transit, reducing the risk of food lingering in the stomach, which can contribute to acid reflux.3

The polyphenols in artichokes may help reduce irritation in the oesophagus caused by stomach acid.

The research concludes that Artichoke improves the upper gastro-intestinal symptoms of dyspepsia.4 A clinical trial found that Artichoke Leaf extract can improve the quality of life and provide support of the upper gastrointestinal signs in individuals with dyspepsia,4 delayed gastric emptying and the resulting acid reflux.

Herbs

With herbs that stimulate the flow of digestive juices** such as bile. Proper assimilation of foods by bile is essential for the proper functioning of the digestive system. Bile emulsifies fats and aids with the absorption of fats and essential fat soluble vitamins like Vitamins A, D, E and K.

German Chamomile

German Chamomile helps support the treatment of gastro-intestinal complaints such as minor spasms, epigastric distension, flatulence and belching.*** German chamomile may have gastroprotective properties and can be used by individuals with acid reflux5 to reduce the irritation of mucosal tissues.6

Fennel

Fennel contributes to gastric membrane protection and helps to reduce digestive discomfort.*** Fennel seed contains bioactives that may relax the smooth muscles of the gastrointestinal tract, which may reduce oesophageal spasms and help to support signs associated with acid reflux.7 Fennel also promotes digestion by stimulating gastric motility, reducing bloating, and minimising the buildup of gas, which can exacerbate reflux signs.

Amla

Amla, also known as Indian gooseberry, can help protect and soothe the oesophageal lining irritated by gastric acid. A study, published in the Journal of Integrative Medicine, aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of Amla concluded that Amla was safe and effective for managing signs of NERD (non-errosive reflux disorder). Its gastroprotective and mucosal-protective properties effects, make it a promising option for the management and treatment of GORD (acid reflux).8

Caraway Seeds

Caraway Seeds contain essential oils that may exhibit antispasmodic and antimicrobial properties.9,10,11 These compounds help relax smooth muscles of the gastrointestinal tract, reduce stomach spasms, and helps with signs of dyspepsia (indigestion) often associated with acid reflux. The antioxidant properties of caraway may reduce oxidative stress, protecting the gastric lining from irritation caused by acid reflux.11

Bamboo Extract

Bamboo Extracts are rich in flavonoids and phenolic compounds. These may reduce oxidative stress, a contributor to mucosal damage in acid reflux. Studies show that Bamboo Extracts potentially calms the oesophageal and gastric sensitivity often seen in acid reflux.12

Inulin

Inulin is a gut-friendly fibre that helps friendly, active bacteria in your gut to grow. Inulin is a 'prebiotic', and prebiotics are vital to the health of probiotics. Think of prebiotics as the fertiliser for the trillions of probiotics in your gut that overcome unwanted organisms, bad bacteria, yeast and parasites, which can otherwise cause bloating, fatigue and illness. Inulin can also be gained through your diet and is found in a wide range fruits and vegetables including onions, wheat, bananas, leeks, artichokes and asparagus.

Psyllium Husk

Psyllium Husk (Plantago ovata) contributes to intestinal tract function, helping maintain healthy bowel movement and facilitating intestinal transit, combatting discomfort such as bloating and cramps.

Lactobacillus Acidophilus

Acidophilus is a naturally occurring bacteria in the human gut and other parts of the body, helping your digestive system break down sugars, such as lactose, into lactic acid. Scientific studies show Acidophilus helps regulate bowel movements.

Rhamnosus

Much like Acidophilus, Lactobacillus Rhamnosus is an extensively studied 'good bacteria' that also exists naturally in your body, primarily in the intestines, helping prevent growth of harmful bacteria in your stomach. Studies show Rhamnosus has beneficial effects on your gut-brain axis.

Bifidobacterium & Casei

The Bif' and Casei are good bacteria that live in your intestines and help your gut break down food and absorb nutrients. Bifidobacterium digests the fibre you consume in your diet and acts to help prevent infections, and also produce other vital nutrients and vitamins in your body.

Streptococcus

These are friendly bacteria living in our digestive, urinary and genital systems that help fight off and overcome bad bacteria in our gut that otherwise may cause disease.

Aids healthy digestive processes

Debloat & Detox has an optimal blend of highly absorbable, scientifically studied botanicals and amino acids in optimal dosages to fuel your digestive health. These include:

Fennel Seeds exert beneficial effects on the digestive system. They contain natural antioxidant properties and exert spasmolytic and carminative effects, which can reduce flatulence and belly spasms.1-3,11

Like Dandelion Root, Fennel Seeds play an important role in supporting gut health and the gut barrier function. A stronger gut lining can supports digestion, the absorption of nutrients and strengthens our immune defences.

Research has shown Fennel Seeds have promising benefits for those who suffer from chronic gastrointestinal issues.

Artichoke Leaf Extract supports the flow of digestive juices and contributes to intestinal comfort. In addition, scientific research suggests artichokes can help reduce feelings of dyspepsia. This, in turn, can reduce feelings of fullness, indigestion and digestive discomfort.

Artichokes naturally contain fibre, nutrients and a whole host of antioxidants. Not only do artichokes contain Inulin, a source of prebiotics that is good for a healthy gut, but they also contain Cynarin. The highest concentrations of Cynarin are found within the Artichoke’s Leaves’, used in Debloat & Detox.7-9

Traditionally used over the years, Milk Thistle has been shown to support both liver health and assist in healthy digestive processes.

Milk Thistle seed contains Silymarin, an active plant compound shown to support digestion by:

  • Stimulating the production of digestive juices, including stomach acid and bile, and hence contributing towards the effective breakdown of foods.
  • Keeping bloating at bay and supporting gastrointestinal movement. This helps the body to move food along at a good pace.
  • Supporting gut flora, as Milk Thistle is extensively broken down and utilised in the intestines by gut bacteria.

A healthy balance of bacteria in the gut has been shown to aid multiple functions in the body, including efficient digestive processes and overall wellbeing.

Dandelion Root possesses prebiotic properties that contribute to gastrointestinal wellbeing. Prebiotics help feed the good bacteria in the gut, which creates an environment inhospitable for unhealthy bacteria to thrive. This can help provide a healthy balance of bacteria in the gut, improve digestive function and support overall wellbeing.

L-glutamine is an important amino acid that is used by the cells of the digestive system (gastrointestinal tract) to support a healthy gut lining. L-glutamine is a precursor to the antioxidant ‘glutathione’, which plays an important role in protecting the body from oxidative stress. Oxidative stress can contribute to digestive issues and put a burden on the body’s organs and functions.20-21

Strengthening the gut lining and increasing antioxidant levels through dietary changes with a focus on particular nutrients can, in turn, help contribute to more balanced digestion and detoxification processes.21-23

Support liver health

Debloat & Detox provides a comprehensive formula including key botanicals that are scientifically studied for their benefits both independently and when combined.

Artichoke Leaf supports liver and gallbladder health as well as liver and kidney detoxification processes.

Debloat & Detox includes two active plant compounds, Cyanara from Artichoke Leaves and Silymarin from Milk Thistle, which together provide effective liver cell protection and support bile production. Together, they help support a healthy liver by improving liver enzymes, providing antioxidant effects and reducing liver damage that can be caused by multiple factors.

Milk Thistle supports the detoxifying potential of the liver and by doing so, it is known to provide liver protection against ‘toxins’ that could otherwise cause damage to liver cells.

Detox & Debloat contains the optimal level of Silymarin. Research shows that Silymarin from Milk Thistle supports the production of the body’s main detoxification enzyme, ‘glutathione’. You may also enjoy reading ‘What is Milk Thistle good for: Top 5 benefits’.13-14

The optimal dose of 60 mg of Burdock Root is also included within the research-led formula, Debloat & Detox. Burdock Root, also known as Arctium lappa, has been researched for its role in contributing to digestive comfort as well as containing effective antioxidants such as Phenolic Acids, Quercetin and Luteolin, known to help support liver function.11,25-26
