Why you may be wasting money on Turmeric
One of the biggest myths about supplements is that 'the higher the price, the better the supplement.' This could not be further from the truth when it comes to turmeric supplements. Turmeric can be one of the most effective supplements for a range of health benefits, from joints to digestion, yet tens of thousands of consumers are wasting hundreds of pounds every year on ineffective turmeric supplements.
Are you paying more than £20 or even £30 for your turmeric supplement each month? Are you taking a turmeric supplement to help with your joints, to relieve joint aches, or for arthritis, osteoarthritis or other joint conditions? If yes, have you checked the label of your supplement to see if it shows curcumin in the nutritional table? If you are taking turmeric for your joints, or if you have any of these health conditions and your turmeric supplement does not show an amount of curcumin on the back of the bottle, it means your turmeric supplement is doing little or nothing for your joints. Our experts explain why and what to look out for when looking for a high quality turmeric supplement.
Why is turmeric so popular?
Our specialists developed the best-selling DR.VEGAN® Curcumin & Turmeric because it is so beneficial to our health, and because it is one of the most common supplements where consumers are ripped off with overpriced, ineffective turmeric supplements.

Turmeric is widely recommended by health specialists because it is an antioxidant, great for digestion and because of its powerful active ingredient, curcumin (curcuminoids), which is excellent for joints. However, the most common misconception people have is that taking a standard turmeric supplement helps their joints, which is not the case.
It is the curcumin within turmeric that is acclaimed for its beneficial effects on your joints, and which is so beneficial for joint aches and other health conditions. For there to be sufficient curcumin in a turmeric supplement, the supplement needs to contain ‘turmeric extract’, which is a highly concentrated form of turmeric that will provide a defined level of curcumin. While curcumin is naturally occurring in turmeric, a standard turmeric supplement does not contain enough curcumin to provide any benefit to joints. Even if your supplement does contain 'turmeric extract', it may not be of a level or quality to provide enough curcumin to help your joints.

How to check your Turmeric supplement
It is really simple to check your turmeric supplement to see if it is providing any benefit to your joints and bones. Simply check the nutritional table on the back of the bottle. If your supplement contains a material level of curcumin, curcumin will be listed as a separate line in the nutritional table. If you can't see curcumin listed separately in the nutritional table, showing an amount of curcumin provided per serving, it means your supplement doesn’t contain a sufficient or reliable level of curcumin. This means it is not helping your joints as you intended. You may also enjoy reading about '5 benefits of Turmeric'.

Overpriced Turmeric supplements
Unfortunately, thousands of consumers are wasting hundreds of pounds every year on turmeric supplements. This is why the DR.VEGAN® Curcumin & Turmeric was created, with 200mg Curcumin and 3300mg Turmeric. And it is less than half the price of inferior turmeric supplements with zero curcumin.
The table below shows just how much consumers are being ripped off. We highlight two other very popular brands found on the internet and on the high street, where the quoted price for a month’s supply is £22 and £27 respectively. Consumers are enticed into buying these supplements through multi-buys or a ‘first month free’ offer, advertised online or in newspapers. As you can see, Brand A contains only 100mg of curcumin and Brand B contains no curcumin. Both brands are more than double the price of DR.VEGAN® Curcumin & Turmeric, which contains 200mg of curcumin. The are other brands like the DR.VEGAN® Curcumin & Turmeric that contain a good level of curcumin, however there are many more brands that charge more than £27 for their turmeric supplement that have no meaningful level of curcumin, which means tens of thousands of consumers are wasting hundreds of pounds every year, taking a turmeric supplement to help their joints when it is doing very little for their joints.
How to choose a Turmeric supplement
The most important thing to look for when buying a turmeric supplement is the level of curcumin it contains. If you’re taking a turmeric supplement for your joints, make sure it contains at least 100mg of curcumin, and ideally 200mg or more of curcumin. You should also check if your turmeric supplement contains Ginger and Black Pepper, which can improve your body’s absorption of turmeric and curcumin by over 2,000%.
If your turmeric supplement does not list the level of curcumin on the back of the bottle, it means it doesn’t contain any meaningful level of curcumin, so the brand can't declare it. Your turmeric supplement may still be good for your digestion, and for its antioxidant properties, but it won’t be providing any material benefit to your joints. You also need to check for nasty additives in your supplements which can not only cause nasty side effects, but also reduce the absorption of any beneficial ingredients.
