How it works?

Iron is required by your body for making haemoglobin, the oxygen-carrying protein in your red blood cells, and it is essential for energy release and maintaining a healthy immune system.

Low levels of iron

Low levels of Iron force your body to work harder to function normally, which causes fatigue and other signs such as irritability and trouble focusing. Iron deficiency is a common cause of anaemia and is more common among women, particularly if you have heavy periods.

Why Vitamin C?

Iron absorption from plant-foods can be as little as 2-5% but including Vitamin C increases absorption by 10x. That's why we include Vitamin C, because it is shown to significantly improve how your body absorbs and benefits from Iron.

Iron and plant-based diets

A well-planned and balanced plant-based or vegan diet can provide most of the essential nutrients you need. However, vegan supplements are advised for some essential nutrients. Iron is important for red blood cell production and a deficiency can lead to anaemia. It is thought that vegetarians and vegans could be at a higher risk of iron deficiency anaemia due to some studies showing they have lower Iron stores (Pawlak, 2018). Useful vegan foods providing Iron include lentils, chickpeas, beans, tofu, nuts and seeds, dried fruit, leafy green vegetables and many more.
