What is Black Pepper?
Black Pepper is on all of our tables and used in cooking globally, but what’s less well known, is that Black Pepper has been used for its health benefits for centuries. Buddhist monks carried it in India to provide relief for constipation, sunburn and even eye problems through the direct application of pepper to the eye!
Today, there are health benefits associated with the consumption of pepper in conventional methods (which means not ground into your eye!). Black Pepper is a potent antioxidant. This means it can fix and neutralise excessive ‘free radicals’ (unstable molecules) that can be induced from environmental stresses like pollution or sunlight. These free radicals can cause damage to hair follicles and prematurely age our hair. Piperine, an active compound in Black Pepper, can fight this effect, maintaining our hair’s vibrancy, health and sheen.
The compounds in Black Pepper also increase the absorption of other dietary supplements such as Curcumin, the active component of Turmeric. Piperine can increase the absorption of Curcumin by 2000%.
